If you love Whiskey, chicken and waffles, or waiters in suspenders, you have to go here.
I stumbled upon Whiskey Cake after a friend recommended that I go there. Boy, was she RIGHT. I originally planned on going Wednesday but Elsa beat me to it. The roads were icy and there was absolutely no way I was getting to Oklahoma-City. Actually, there was absolutely no way my mother was allowing me to go to Oklahoma-City. I made another reservation on OpenTable for Friday. Pro tip: make a reservation. The wait was up to an hour when we arrived.
The waiters were wearing light blue suspenders with a white top. I automatically approved. It definitely felt like a farmhouse vibe mixed with a speakeasy. Without the actual speakeasy part. Everything there was made fresh, from the cocktails to the kitchen. My friend and I decided on a glass of Pinot Grigio by Benvolio. I highly approve. From someone who used to religiously drink Barefoot, I have a great taste in wine after a wine tasting class. Thank you, OSU. We also settled for, you guessed it, chicken and waffles. Honestly, you can't let two college-aged students go to a decently nice restaurant and order chicken and waffles. I was one second short from ordering duck but, we were those people.
I can confidently say it was the best chicken and waffles of my 21-year-old existence. The waiters reaction to our reaction was hysterical. I don't think he's seen hungry looking girls before who takes food very seriously. Beware: the sauce is somewhat spicy but not enough to keep someone away from eating it. The chicken is NOTHING you have ever tasted. Nothing makes your mouth water more than fresh fried chicken.
We somehow saved room for cake. We normally have breakfast for cake like Kate Spade recommends but we moved it back.
I ordered the Whiskey Cake because I am a basic person. What can I say? My friend ordered the seasonal dessert, Sopaipilla Cheesecake. The Whiskey cake could have had more moisture to it. It was an odd combination of moist but occasionally dry. It is kind of like an oversized brownie that I highly recommend splitting. The cheesecake I could have eaten for DAYS. Take advantage, people.
As I Instagram my food, our waiter caught sight of me and asked if I had enough pictures. Man, I was CALLED OUT for working the angles. It was too funny. I explained to him after why I was and he felt to tease. I'm glad I'm not the only one who takes pictures of their food!
Below there is the menu so you can see the delicious food and drinks they offer.
